Case Description
27 July 2023, a search was conducted in the city of Bratsk, Irkutsk Oblast, at the home of 35-year-old local resident and programmer Aleksandr Levchishin. After the search, he was taken away in an unknown direction. His elderly parents tried to locate him at the local FSB office, but were told that their son had been released after a 'peaceful conversation' with him. Eventually, the programmer was found in the temporary detention facility at the police station. A protocol on an administrative offense under the article on petty hooliganism was drawn up against Levchishin. On the same day, the Bratsk City Court sentenced him to administrative arrest as punishment. On 5 August 2024, Levchishin was transferred to Irkutsk. A criminal case was opened against him for 'using programs designed for unauthorized impact on critical information infrastructure, resulting in grave consequences.' According to the investigation, the man donated 1,400 rubles for an ambulance for Ukrainians and passed on medical records of two military personnel from his hometown. On 6 August 2023, the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk sent the programmer into custody. In December 2024, the charges against Levchishin were toughened - the article on treason was added. On 20 May 2025, the Irkutsk Regional Court found Aleksandr Levchishin guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in a strict regime colony. On 14 August 2025, the Fifth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
