Case Description
On February 2, 2025, in the Kursk region, during hostilities, a 38-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a serviceman of the 22nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Klimenko, was taken prisoner by Russian military personnel. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on the morning of January 28, 2025, Klimenko, armed with automatic weapons, ammunition, and four F-1 grenades, as part of a unit in an armored personnel carrier, illegally invaded the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region. On the same day he arrived at the settlement of Staraya Sorochina, where he took up a firing position. In the following days, Klimenko "blocked the village, prevented the evacuation of civilians, and intimidated local residents by demonstrating and using weapons." August 8, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexander Klimenko guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in prison, with the first 4 years to be served in a prison, and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
