Case Description
In January 2024, 32-year-old local resident Alexander Fomenko was detained in Novoaltaysk. He was accused of treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, the man established contact with a representative of the Legion "Freedom of Russia" via the internet and wanted to participate in the armed conflict on the side of Ukraine as part of its ranks. To confirm the seriousness of his intentions, the man allegedly sent a video recording of his oath. Carrying out the 'curator's' assignments, Fomenko allegedly collected information about servicemen in the region, the locations of military units, and sent it to the Legion representative's email. During the investigation, Fomenko was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On February 10, 2025, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Alexander Fomenko guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in a strict regime colony. June 9, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
