Case Description
On May 28, 2022, a local resident, Alexander Dimitrenko, was detained in the Voronezh region. During the search, security forces allegedly found explosives and a Ukrainian passport in his house, but Alexander himself says that they were planted on him. The defendant in the case reported about torture, including that a bag was put on his head to obtain the testimony needed by the security forces. A criminal case was opened against the man under articles on "preparation for sabotage, illegal possession of explosives, and "treason." According to the version of the security forces, Alexander planned to blow up the railway station 'Maslovka' in the Voronezh region. Two days later, the Central District Court of Voronezh sent Alexander Dimitrenko under arrest. On March 22, 2024, the Voronezh Regional Court found Alexander Dimitrenko guilty and sentenced him to 23 years in a strict regime colony, with the first 5 years to be served in prison. On September 24, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction reduced the sentence by six months.
