Case Description
In the Kursk region on December 4, 2024, during hostilities, -year-old Ukrainian citizen, serviceman of the 15th separate Jaeger brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, soldier Alexander Chernienko, was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen. A criminal case was opened against him for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, resulting in significant damage. According to the Russian investigation, on August 23, 2024, Chernienko, as part of a combat unit, illegally crossed the state border of Russia and invaded the Kursk region. Upon arriving at the village of Lebedevka in the Sudzhansky District, he, along with his fellow servicemen, 'participated in blocking the settlement using firearms.' "October 14, 2025, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Alexander Chernienko guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, the first 4 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
