Case Description
On January 25, 2023, in the city of Sovetskaya Gavan, Khabarovsk Krai, security forces came to search the local eco-activist Zakhar Zaripov." Only his pregnant wife was at home. Zaripov was arrested at work - he worked as a mathematics teacher in two colonies, strict and special regime, in Sovetskaya Gavan and Vanino. According to law enforcement, at the beginning of March, Zaripov, under the nickname scribble_33, published a post titled 'Hint to Kadyrov' on LiveJournal, in which the author of the publication suggests the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, not to send military personnel from the republic to the war in Ukraine, but instead to seek independence for his region. In the publication, the linguistic examination saw signs of "incitement to an armed seizure of power with the aim of violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation. A criminal case was opened against Zaripov for calls to terrorism. January 27, the judge of the Vaninsky District Court of the Khabarovsk Territory Marina Gozha ruled to choose Zaripova's preventive measure in the form of detention. On April 1, 2024, the 1st Eastern Military District Court found Zakhar Zaripov guilty and sentenced him to five years in a general regime penal colony. Also, the court prohibited Zaripov from posting materials on the Internet for 2 years. At the end of November 2024, Zaripova was released from serving her sentence due to her health condition. On November 26, 2024, the Appellate Military Court mitigated the sentence, imposing a new punishment in the form of a fine of 500 thousand rubles. Taking into account the period of detention, the court reduced the amount of punishment to 350 thousand. rubles.
