Case Description

In the city of Sverdlovsk in the occupied part of the Luhansk region, on 18 July 2024, security forces, who identified themselves as FSB officers, abducted a local resident, a citizen of Ukraine, Yuri Nikitenko. According to the testimony of Nikitenko's father, Yuri, they were held until 23:30 and handed over to the police for violating the curfew in the city of Krasny Luch, which is 80 kilometers from Sverdlovsk. On the same day, the court sentenced him to 15 days of administrative arrest allegedly for violating the curfew. 3 August 2024, on the day of his release, Nikitenko was abducted again. He was released at 23:40. Yuri's wife came to meet him, she personally saw how unknown people took him out of the police department in the city of Krasny Luch, put handcuffs on him and a bag over his head, and took him away in an unknown direction. On August 19, the court sentenced him to another 25 days of arrest on the same charge. On August 28, 2024, after the end of the second term of arrest, Nikitenko was again taken away in an unknown direction. As a result, he was accused of public calls for terrorism. The details of the charges are unknown. It is also unknown when and which court chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention.
