Case Description
In July 2022, Radio Liberty published a video on Telegram showing a survey of Moscow residents on whether tensions between Russia and NATO countries should be eased. One of the respondents said in the video that Russia was “bombing shopping centers”; according to him, the military was shooting civilians for no reason, so easing tensions depended on the actions of the Russian government. According to the investigation, the man provided “knowingly false information” about the actions of the Russian army in Bucha in the survey. On April 22, 2024, the Ostankinsky District Court of Moscow found Yuri Kokhovets guilty and sentenced him to five years of forced labor with 10% of his salary going to the state. The court also deprived Kokhovets of the right to administer websites on the Internet for four years. On September 17, 2024, the Moscow City Court toughened the sentence and sent him to a general regime colony for five years.
