Case Description

On May 20, 2024, employees of the FSB of Russia for the Saratov Region detained three local residents - 21-year-old Vlas Shirokov, 18-year-old Yuri Aksyonov, and 22-year-old Dmitry Aksyonov. They were accused of committing sabotage, treason, and legalizing monetary funds obtained through criminal means. According to the investigation, from April 1 to April 22, 2024, Yuri Aksyonov proactively established contact with an employee of the military intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who offered him monetary compensation for carrying out sabotage on the territory of the Saratov Region. For this purpose, Yuri recruited his acquaintances - Dmitry and Vlas. On April 25, April 14, and May 18, 2024, the young men committed arson of relay cabinets of the Volga Railway and a base station of a cellular operator. It is claimed that for this, Dmitry Aksyonov received digital cryptocurrency from an employee of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine as compensation, which he converted into monetary funds totaling more than 75 thousand rubles. During the investigation, the court sent the young men into custody. On May 29, 2025, the Saratov Regional Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Yuri Aksyonov to 16 years of imprisonment, Dmitry Aksyonov to 18 years of imprisonment and a fine of 90 thousand rubles, and Vlas Shirokov to 18 years of imprisonment. The court also imposed a one-year restriction of freedom on each of them. They must serve the first 5 years of their sentences in prison, and the remaining time in a strict regime correctional colony. On August 28, 2025, the Fourth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict, details are unknown.
