Case Description
On August 2, 2023, in Volgograd, 31-year-old archive consultant Yulia Yashenko came to the building on Degtyaryov Street, where the recruitment office of the military commissariat of the Krasno-oktyabrsky and Traktorozavodsky districts of Volgograd is located. She had five half-liter bottles of Molotov cocktail, wicks, rags, matches and lighters with her. The girl attracted the attention of the patrol guarding the military enlistment office: she was walking in circles around the building, looking at her phone, and was clearly nervous. When the police approached the woman, she allegedly did not deny it, immediately showed them the contents of her backpack and confessed that she wanted to set a fire. Yashchenko was accused of attempted destruction of someone else's property and hooliganism committed with the use of weapons. On the same day, the court placed her in custody. On June 3, 2024, the Traktorozavodsky District Court of Volgograd found Yulia Yashenko guilty and sentenced her to two years of imprisonment in a penal colony-settlement. On August 7, 2024, the Volgograd District Court upheld this decision and released Yaschenko in the courtroom, crediting the time spent in pre-trial detention.
