The exact date of the case being opened is unknown. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a video published on VKontakte, depicting a swastika "mixed with symbols of Russian monarchy, and a video discrediting "the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the purpose of protecting the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens. Earlier, in April 2023, Semenov was held accountable in a case of an administrative offense under the article on "discrediting the Russian army. On December 9, 2024, the Chernovsky District Court of Chita found Yulia Semyonova guilty and sentenced her to two and a half years of probation with a three-year probationary period.
