Case Description
In Sochi on June 20, 2025, DPS officers stopped a car with USSR state license plates. Yaroslav Rybin and his mother Yulia were in the car. During a document check, the mother and son presented Soviet Union passports and a driver's license, as well as documents for a car with Soviet symbols. They told the police officers that they did not recognize the Russian Federation as a legitimate state, since, in their opinion, the USSR had not officially ceased to exist." Prosecutors opened a criminal case against the Rybin family for participating in the activities of an extremist organization. Yulia Rybina was also accused of involving another person in the activities of such an organization. According to the investigation, the mother and son were members of an organization whose activities were deemed extremist by court decision, and actively promoted its ideology. Yulia persuaded her acquaintances of the need to join the ranks of the organization and restore the USSR, promising material benefits in the form of tax exemption, as well as the possibility of not paying for utilities and fines." 3. In the opinion of the security forces, the activities of the case's defendants undermined the foundations of the state and constitutional order. There is no information about the measure of restraint. On December 4, 2025, the Lazarevskoye District Court of Sochi found the defendants guilty and sentenced Yulia Rybina to five years in a general regime colony, and Yaroslav Rybin to three years. Both were banned from engaging in activities related to participation in the work of public associations and organizations for three years.
