Case Description
17 kilometers from the railway stations "Gorelovo — Krasnoe Selo" in St. Petersburg on March 17, 2023, around seven o'clock in the evening, an unknown person set fire to a relay cabinet. As a result of the fire, no one was injured, the fire did not affect the operation of the railway - there were no delays in train traffic, the electrical equipment inside the cabinet was not damaged, only the external coating of the relay cabinet was damaged. The St. Petersburg Transport Investigative Department of the Western Interregional Transport Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on attempted intentional destruction of another's property with significant damage, out of hooligan motives by arson. Two days later, on March 19, 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zaitsev was detained on suspicion of arson. According to the investigation, he agreed to commit arson on the instructions of a curator from one of the Telegram channels for a reward of 10 thousand rubles in order to disrupt the train schedule. He received the money through a crypto wallet. The court chose a measure of restraint for Zaytseva in the form of a ban on certain actions. Later, the charge was reclassified as committing sabotage, and the measure of restraint for Zaitsev was changed to detention. The exact date of his arrest is unknown. St. Petersburg City Court found Vyacheslav Zaitsev guilty on January 31, 2024, and sentenced him to eight years in prison. 2 April 2024, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the sentence.
