Case Description
In May 2023, a criminal case was initiated in the city of Ukhta, Republic of Komi, against a local 49-year-old resident, Vladislav Vertinsky, for the rehabilitation of Nazism and desecration of burial sites. According to the investigation, on May 8, 2022, Vertinsky, using a can of yellow paint, applied an "indelible inscription" "Putler kaput" on the memorial "Eternal Flame", thus damaging and desecrating it, as well as insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland. The man was placed in a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation. On September 26, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic found Vladislav Vertinsky guilty and sentenced him to three years in a penal colony-settlement. December 19, 2023, the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
