Case Description
In June 2022, taxi driver Vladimir Zolotarev set fire to the building of the Rosgvardia as a sign of protest against the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. The arson was committed outside of working hours, and no one was harmed by Vladimir's actions. On the interrogation, he said: 'I don't know how else to talk to you, with our beloved state.' Earlier, Zolotarev had participated in opposition rallies. 28 July, the 1st Eastern Military Court sentenced Zolotaryov to 18 years in prison. He was found guilty under three charges: "committing a terrorist act, inflicting non-dangerous violence against a police officer, and "preparing to commit a terrorist act." Volodymyr did not plead guilty and does not agree with the classification of his actions as 'terrorism'. The defense, represented by lawyer Vitaly Tykhty, appealed the verdict.
