Savin Vladimir Vladimirovich

In Astrakhan, no later than February 2024, a 47-year-old local resident Vladimir Savin was detained. A criminal case was initiated against him on the grounds of confidential cooperation to the detriment of the Russian Federation, attempted participation in a terrorist community, facilitation of terrorist activities, and document forgery. According to the investigation, on November 16, 2023, Savin established contact with an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and agreed to carry out his assignments. He planned to arrive in Ukraine for firearms and mine-explosive training with the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks on Russian territory, attempting to assassinate a deputy of the regional parliament, as well as gathering information about the sea trade port in the Astrakhan region. On December 15, 2023, Savin submitted an application form to join the Ukrainian paramilitary association Legion "Freedom of Russia" and received confirmation of acceptance. Since Savin was temporarily restricted from leaving Russia, he received a fake passport of a citizen of Kazakhstan by mail, after which he was detained. The court placed the man in a pre-trial detention center. On October 28, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Vladimir Savin guilty and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment, the first 2 years of which he must serve in prison, and the remaining term in a strict regime correctional colony.
