Case Description
In Tatarstan in October 2023 (the exact date is unknown), 33-year-old electrician Vladimir Ovchinnikov was detained. A criminal case was opened against him for "participation in the activities of a terrorist organization." "According to the investigation, a worker from a contracting organization of PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim allegedly remotely joined the Freedom of Russia Legion and carried out certain assignments from curators to "spy on defense-industrial enterprises" in Tatarstan. It was not reported what kind of "intelligence" the electrician was conducting. The man was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On February 28, 2024, a new criminal case was opened against Vladimir Ovchinnikov - for "treason." "According to the Slovaks, the electrician allegedly collected and wanted to transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine 'information about the coordinates of the RF Armed Forces and industrial facilities of the Russian Federation.'", On April 15, 2025, the Central Military District Court found Vladimir Ovchinnikov guilty and sentenced him to 22 years in a strict regime penal colony.
