Case Description
In Magadan, no later than December 2023, a criminal case was initiated against a 40-year-old local resident, Vitaly Tkachenko, on charges of calling for extremism. The reason for the criminal prosecution was five comments calling to "destroy Russians, which Tkachenko allegedly published in a news Telegram channel from October 1 to December 30, 2023. According to law enforcement officers, the Magadan resident actively supported Ukraine. It is unknown whether a preventive measure has been chosen. On July 23, 2024, the Magadan City Court found Vitaly Tkachenko guilty and sentenced him to two years in a general regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
