Case Description

No later than June 2025, a criminal case was initiated in North Ossetia on charges of terrorism calls against 56-year-old human rights defender, former resident of Beslan, Vissarion Aseev. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a post he made on Facebook shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion, on March 16, 2022. In it, he called on the Ossetians to "stay at home" and not go to fight in Ukraine. 3. 'What the hell are Ossetians going to Ukraine to die?' Sit at home! If you want to kill, kill Putin!" - wrote Aseyev. According to the investigation, this comment was recognized by an expert examination as an informational call for terrorist activity - 'an attack on the life of a state official with the aim of terminating his activities.'" Sam Aseyev has been living in Kyiv since 2014 and regularly publicly condemns the military invasion. The defendant in the case was put on the wanted list. In 2023, Aseev was fined for 'discrediting' the army - in one of his posts he condemned the annexation of Crimea.
