Case Description
In St. Petersburg, early in the morning of May 6, 2022, a search was conducted at the rented apartment of 28-year-old Viktoria Petrova. All of Petrova's equipment and campaign materials in support of Ukraine were confiscated, after which she was taken to the Investigative Committee for questioning. Petrov was accused of 'public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation motivated by political hatred and enmity.' According to the investigation, Petrova published a post on VKontakte where she sharply condemned Russia's military actions in Ukraine, accusing Vladimir Putin and his closest associates personally of the deaths of civilians and genocide of the Ukrainian people, and federal media of lying and psychological manipulation. On May 7, 2022, the Kalininsky District Court of St. Petersburg sent the girl to a pre-trial detention center. In October 2023, Petrov was transferred to a psychiatric hospital. December 23, 2023, Judge Gennady Pilekhin of the Kalininsky District Court of St. Petersburg held an offsite session at Psychiatric Hospital No. 3 named after", Judge I.I. Skvortsova-Stepanova issued a decision to apply compulsory medical measures to Victoria Petrova. The court considered that during the "spreading of fakes" Petrov was in an incompetent state and did not understand the meaning of "military fakes. On July 19, 2024, Judge Ekaterina Fomina of the St. Petersburg City Court left the decision of the Kalininsky District Court unchanged. On August 12, the court issued a ruling to replace stationary psychiatric observation with outpatient observation. Victoria was released!
