Case Description
Veronika Netunaeva, a lawyer from the local administration, was detained in Uglich, Yaroslavl Oblast, in July 2023. According to the investigation, Veronika allegedly "together with other unidentified individuals from the city of Uglich" in Telegram, WhatsApp, and Instagram transmitted to representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine data on the "deployment of strategically important infrastructure facilities of the city" with the aim of committing a terrorist act. According to the Russian security forces' version, the woman publicly supported the 'Azov' regiment, 'agitated for providing assistance to Ukrainian citizens participating in military actions,' and called for the destruction of 'ZVO logos.'", Communication devices were confiscated from the detained person. It allegedly contained correspondence with a "Ukrainian coordinator" discussing the planned crime. A criminal case was opened against Netunaeva for preparing to commit a terrorist act. At the request of the investigation, the Frunzensky District Court of Yaroslavl sent the lawyer to a pre-trial detention center. On February 14, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Veronika Netunaeva guilty and sentenced her to six years in prison.
