Case Description
On September 4, 2025, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a 42-year-old journalist, public figure, teacher, and activist of the "Council of Kamchatka Krai" Vasilisa Vershinina was detained after a search. It is alleged that before the search, Vershinina "attempted to destroy items and documents that could be recognized as material evidence in a criminal case." Searches were also conducted on six Kamchatka activists, who were released after questioning. Vasilisa was accused of participating in the activities of an extremist organization. According to the investigation, since 2021, Vershinina, "being aware" that the activities of the political party "VOLYA" on the territory of the Russian Federation are prohibited, decided to continue its activities in Kamchatka Krai on behalf of the officially unregistered organizations "All-Russian Union for the Revival of Russia" and its subdivision - the "Council of Kamchatka Krai." Law enforcement claims that the defendant "systematically conducted conversations for the purpose of propaganda of the banned political organization, involved other persons in its activities, distributing leaflets and literature, and created various internet communities." The party "VOLYA" was recognized as "extremist" in 2016. On September 5, 2025, the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky City Court of Kamchatka Krai sent Vershinina to a pre-trial detention center. On September 12, 2025, the Kamchatka Krai Court changed the measure of restraint to house arrest. In October 2025, the charges were toughened - reclassified as terrorism.
