Slonov Vasiliy Petrovich

On February 8, 2024, in Krasnoyarsk, security forces conducted a search at the home and workshop of artist Vasily Slonov. They seized all laptops, computers, and phones. A criminal case was opened against the artist for displaying the symbolism of the banned 'AUE movement' due to his works with prison tattoos. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a post on VKontakte with a photo of a roly-poly installation. For this work, Slonova was already fined in the fall of 2023, then the court ordered the sculpture to be destroyed. The artist was detained on February 9, 2024 at the airport when he was about to fly to Kazakhstan after the case was opened. Prior to the selection of a preventive measure, Slonov was placed in a temporary detention facility. On February 10, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnoyarsk, at the request of the investigation, sent Slonov under house arrest. On September 24, 2024, the Sovetsky District Court of Krasnoyarsk found Vasily Slonov guilty and sentenced him to one year of corrective labor with a deduction of 15% of his salary to the state and the destruction of the roly-poly doll. On January 23, 2025, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Court upheld the verdict.
