Case Description
In St. Petersburg in July 2023, 48-year-old local resident Vasily Ryabinin was detained. A criminal case was opened against him for inciting hatred or enmity with a threat of violence using the internet. According to the investigation, the Petersburg resident posted comments on the social network VKontakte aimed at inciting hatred or enmity towards representatives of state authorities and law enforcement officers, and contained threats of violence against this social group. The details of the charges are unknown. On July 12, 2023, the Petrogradsky District Court of St. Petersburg placed the defendant in the case in a pre-trial detention center. On October 4, 2023, the Petrogradsky District Court of St. Petersburg found Vasily Ryabinin guilty and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment with a probationary period of 3 years. The man was released from custody in the courtroom. On February 26, 2024, the St. Petersburg City Court left the verdict unchanged.
