Case Description
In the village of Kalanchak, in the occupied part of the Kherson region, on November 6, 2024, 53-year-old local resident, Ukrainian citizen Valeriy Yuzifovich, was detained. He was accused of espionage. According to the Russian investigation, in March 20022, Yuzefovich, as the commander of a territorial defense unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kalanchak district of the Kherson region, received an intelligence task from a representative of the SBU to gather information about the locations of Russian military equipment and personnel, as well as about individuals assisting the Russian army. Being a supporter of the current political regime of Ukraine, Yuzefovich, out of ideological motives, agreed to carry out the assignment, after which, from March to November 2022, he transmitted data to the SBU. The defendants in the case were placed in custody for the duration of the investigation. On May 30, 2024, the Kherson Regional Court found Valery Yuzifovich guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
