Case Description
In July 2022, at the Russian-Finnish border, 69-year-old Valeriy Timofeyev, Vice President for Business Development at the Russian-Finnish company Helsinki Shipyard Oy and a native of the Bakhchysarai District of Crimea, was detained. Under escort, he was taken to Moscow, where on July 14, 2022, Lefortovo District Court arrested Timofeev on charges of treason. According to the investigation, Timofeyev passed secret data about the activities of the Yantar shipbuilding plant in the Kaliningrad region to a foreign state. This plant produces vessels for the Navy, among other things. On May 28, 2024, the Moscow City Court found Valery Timofeev guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime penal colony and a fine of 300 thousand. rubles. On September 30, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence unchanged.
