Case Description
Local resident Valery Ovcharenko was detained in Khabarovsk no later than September 2024. According to the man, after the detention he was tortured by FSB operatives for several hours, demanding the password to his phone. When he gave it, they found in the phone several political cartoons, including those of Putin, personal messages in which Ovcharenko sent a link to a YouTube video of Vyacheslav Maltsev's Narodovlastiya movement, as well as words about "what misfortune began in those February days." He also "spoke unflatteringly" about the Russian army in the messages.
Ovcharenko was accused of promoting terrorist activity. The reason for criminal prosecution were four transfers of funds in 2022-2023 through U-Mani for the needs of political prisoners. According to the law enforcers, the wallet to which Ovcharenko transferred the money was linked to the Narodovlastiye movement, which is recognized as a terrorist movement in Russia.
The court placed the defendant in pre-trial detention.
On June 30, 2025, the 1st Eastern District Military Court found Valery Ovcharenko guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
On December 24, 2025, the Military Court of Appeal left the verdict unchanged.
