Case Description
In Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, in March 2024, a criminal case was opened against 37-year-old local resident Valentin Tokarev for 'fakes' about the Russian army. The reason for the criminal prosecution was posts in an unnamed Telegram channel, which, according to the investigation, contained "false information about the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation during the special military operation." The details of the charges are unknown. On March 20, 2024, the Central District Court of Sochi sent Tokarev to a pre-trial detention center until May 15, 2024. After that, the prosecution did not appear in court to extend the detention, and the man was most likely assigned a preventive measure not related to imprisonment. On 14 August 2024, the Central District Court of Sochi issued a ruling on the application of compulsory medical measures to Valentin Tokarev. The ruling was not appealed and entered into legal force.
