On October 13, 2023, lawyers Vadim Kobzev, Alexey Lipitzer, and Igor Sergunin were detained in Moscow. They were accused of participating in the activities of an extremist organization. According to law enforcement agencies, the lawyers, using their status when providing legal assistance to gain access to the correctional facility, ensured the regular transmission of information between the leaders and participants of the extremist community and Navalny A.A., who thus continued to perform the functions of the leader and head of the extremist community in planning, preparing, creating conditions and committing crimes of an extremist nature." The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sent all three to a pre-trial detention center. Lawyers for Navalny Olga Mikhailova and Alexander Fedulov are also suspects in the case. They left Russia, they were put on the wanted list and arrested in absentia. January 16, 2025, the Petushinsky District Court of the Vladimir Region found the defendants guilty and sentenced Vadim Kobzev to 5.5 years, Alexey Lipster to 5 years, and Igor Sergunin to 3.5 years in a general regime colony. The court also deprived the lawyers of the right to engage in professional activities in providing legal services for 3 years. 22 September 2025, the Vladimir Regional Court rephrased the ban on professional activity as a ban on advocacy and ruled to reduce the restriction of freedom after the main term from a year for Kobzev to 11 months, for Lipzter to 10 months, and for Sergunin to 9 months."
