Case Description
On March 17, 2022, a search was conducted at the home of local activist Ruslan Terentyev in Kazan. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a provocative message from an unidentified user in a Telegram chat about the 'need to acquire megaphones and means of armed resistance to representatives of the authorities.' Searches were also conducted at seven other addresses—of civil activist Andrey Boyarshinov, former Yabloko party candidate Gulnaz Ravilova, a member of that party Elena Izotova, LPR activist Ruslan Tukhvatullin, other "Yabloko" members and opposition activists. Timur Tukhvatullin and Ruslan Terentyev were detained for 48 hours. On March 19, Tukhvatullina was released without a measure of restraint, while Terentyeva was released on a written undertaking not to leave. On June 2, lawyer Ruslan Ignatyev told OVD-Info that the prosecution of Tukhvatullin was discontinued—the Investigative Committee could not establish his involvement. Initially, Ruslan Terentyev was a suspect in a case involving involvement in mass riots, but he was ultimately charged with calling for mass riots. The other activists were witnesses in the case. On November 23, 2022, the Aviastroitelny District Court of Kazan sentenced Ruslan Terentyev to one year of restriction of freedom. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
