Case Description
In Irkutsk, no later than July 2024, a 25-year-old local resident, Timur Peletskis, was detained. He was accused of treason, committing two acts of sabotage, preparing to commit two more acts of sabotage, assisting in sabotage activities, and participating in the activities of the terrorist organization Legion Freedom of Russia. According to the investigation, in 2023, Pelesksis contacted a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and joined an organised group to carry out sabotage." From December 28 to 29, 2023, he set fire to two cellular base stations in the Irkutsk region. Later, he prepared to set fire to relay cabinets on the railway: he conducted reconnaissance of the area and made bottles with an incendiary mixture. In May 2024, he was detained while attempting to break into one of the relay cabinets. He also collected information about the military commissariat in Irkutsk to transfer it to the Ukrainian side and intended to go to Spain to join the "Freedom of Russia" legion. The court placed the young man in a remand prison. On January 26, 2026, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Timur Peletskis guilty and sentenced him to 22 years in prison, the first 5 years he must serve in prison, and the remaining term - in a strict regime correctional colony. In addition, he was sentenced to 2 years of restriction of freedom.
