Case Description
On May 13, 2023, in St. Petersburg, 18-year-old cadet of one of the oldest military universities in the country, Private Kirsanov Timur, was detained. He was accused of attempting to set fire to a relay cabinet on the stretch between the stations "St. Petersburg-Finlyandsky-Lanskaya. According to law enforcement officials, the cadet was recruited, being offered 15 thousand rubles. This was his second attempt to set fire to a relay cabinet. After the first attempt, he left a crowbar, newspapers, and two liters of flammable liquid at the scene. Kirsanov was accused of attempting to commit a terrorist act. On May 15, 2023, the St. Petersburg Garrison Military Court chose a measure of restraint for Private Kirsanov in the form of detention. April 25, 2024, the 1st Western District Military Court found Timur Kirsanov guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in prison, with the first 2 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime penal colony.
