Case Description
In Novosibirsk, a search was conducted twice at the home of 67-year-old local resident Tahir Arslanov. According to Arslanov's own testimony, '15 people in masks with weapons stormed the house.' During the search, his cat was killed. A tablet was confiscated from the pensioner and after the search he was taken for interrogation, which lasted until 5 am, while stating that he was in the status of a witness. Arslanov was initially told that he was involved in a case about arson. According to the pensioner himself, the true arsonist was not found, and they were picking my fingers, taking saliva and samples of gasoline for analysis drained from the garage. Starting in September 2022, the pensioner was called to the Investigative Committee four times. In February 2023 (the exact date is unknown), Arslamov was charged with 'public calls' to extremism and terrorism and 'calls for mass riots'." 5. The reason for the criminal prosecution was two comments in the VKontakte group "Volna Peremen." "Novosibirsk. In one of them, the pensioner called the Russian invasion a "conquest war of Kremlin fascists, and the second is related to the arson of a military enlistment office in Novosibirsk on September 29, 2022. The investigation claims that Arslanov experiences feelings of enmity and hatred towards Putin and the "special military operation" he is conducting. A non-disclosure agreement was taken from Arslanov. Arslanov admits that the publications that became the basis for the criminal case were "very harsh protests, explaining this by the fact that his daughter lives in Kyiv and spent nights in a bomb shelter. August 2, 2023, Judge Alexei Vasilychenko of the 1st Eastern Military Circuit Court found Tahir Arslanov guilty and sentenced him to three years in a general regime colony. The pensioner was taken into custody in the courtroom. December 4, 2023, the Appellate Military Court reduced the sentence by two months.
