Case Description
On August 24, 2024, in Kazan, at around 10 PM, 50-year-old resident of Chistopol Svetlana Ruzanova broke a window in the building of the military prosecutor's office of the Kazan garrison, poured a flammable liquid inside, threw a bottle with the same liquid inside, and then set the room on fire using matches." The fire broke out on an area of 16 square meters, as a result of which the dining room burned down. During the arson, the woman's 13-year-old son was with her. The mother and the teenager were detained by passers-by and taken to the police station. A criminal case was opened against Ruzanova for a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. According to the investigation, the woman, being opposed to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, contacted representatives of Ukrainian special services. In the chat, the arrested person allegedly gave consent to commit explosions, arson, and "other actions to intimidate the population and create a danger to people's lives, etc." Before the election of a preventive measure, she was placed in a temporary detention center. On August 26, 2024, the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan sent the case participant to a pre-trial detention center.
