Case Description
In Verkhnyaya Tura, Sverdlovsk Oblast, in December 2023, a criminal case was opened against pensioner Svetlana Mokhorylova for justifying terrorism. On December 21, 2023, a search was conducted in her home, during which two phones, a laptop, books, and a scarf were seized. It's especially offensive that they took my personal poems and Slavic spells, the woman said. During the search, she could not contact a lawyer, since the investigators forbade her to use the phone. After the search was completed, Mohnorylov was taken for questioning at the Investigative Committee's investigative department in Kirovgrad, after which he was released on his own recognizance not to leave. The reason for initiating a criminal case was a post on the social network VKontakte. On February 2, 2024, the pensioner was placed in the Sverdlovsk Regional Psychiatric Hospital for a psychological and psychiatric examination as part of a preliminary investigation. In May 2024, the court again sent Makhnorilov to the same hospital for a repeat forensic psychiatric examination. Earlier, Makhnorilova was repeatedly fined and subjected to administrative arrest for posts and comments on social networks - under articles on discrediting the use of the army, inciting hatred and enmity, and displaying extremist symbols. 24 September 2025, the Central Military District Court ruled to apply compulsory medical measures to Svetlana Makhnoraylova. At the prosecutor's request, the court decided to place the woman in a general psychiatric hospital until the final decision takes effect immediately after its announcement.
