Case Description

On August 1, 2023, a 55-year-old Muscovite, a Ukrainian with Russian citizenship, Svetlana Kudryashova, was detained at the railway station in Kimry, Tver Oblast. A criminal case was opened against her for repeatedly displaying extremist symbols. According to the investigation, she went around and 'demonstrated on her body' tattoos with the symbolism of the 'Azov' battalion. We were told about it by passersby. Photos of Svetlana were posted in the Telegram channel of the leader of the "Male State": in addition to the "Azov" symbolism, the tattoo had the inscription "Ilya. According to Svetlana, on August 1, 2023, in the pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Tver, FSB operatives from the Moscow region, during an interrogation, threatened her, threatened her family, and demanded that she give false confessions. Despite this, during the interrogation, Svetlana ended up admitting her guilt, stating that "she does not have Nazi tattoos, only corresponding Ukrainian symbols, which have been on her since 2018, and until 2022 no one paid attention to them, and that the video in the train with her participation was made by a blogger "taking a chauvinistic position of hatred towards Ukrainians, on the order of a certain circle of people inciting racial hatred towards Ukrainians." Earlier, in May 2023, the Golovinsky District Court of Moscow held Kudryashova accountable in a case of an administrative offense under the article on the demonstration of extremist symbolism because of the same tattoo. On August 9, 2023, the court chose house arrest as a preventive measure for a Moscow resident. On May 3, 2024, Kudryashov was released from custody. June 10, 2024, the Kimry City Court of the Tver Region found Svetlana Kudryashova guilty and sentenced her to 7 months of general regime. The woman was taken into custody in the courtroom. On September 4, 2024, the Tver Regional Court overturned the verdict and sent the case for a new judicial review. Kudryashova's measure of restraint was changed to a written undertaking not to leave. On December 26, 2024, the Kimry City Court of the Tver Region found Svetlana Kudryashova guilty and sentenced her for the second time to 7 months in a general regime colony. On April 3, 2025, the Tver Regional Court left the verdict unchanged. In April 2025, a second criminal case was initiated against Svetlana Kudryashova in Moscow for the repeated public demonstration of extremist symbols. According to the investigation, Kudryashova demonstrated a tattoo on her right hand with the symbolism of the 'Azov' regiment. In May 2024, she was again brought to administrative responsibility for demonstrating the same tattoo and was arrested for 10 days. On April 18, 2025, the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sent the defendant in the case to a pre-trial detention center.
