Case Description
On July 22, 2019, in the occupied Donetsk, a 46-year-old local resident, a citizen of Ukraine, Svetlana Dovgal, was abducted from her home. It is known that almost all the time after the abduction, she was illegally held in the 'Isolation' prison. According to the testimony of other prisoners who saw Svetlana there, after interrogations the woman came in bruises: she was beaten, tortured with electricity, kept in the basement. A criminal case for espionage was opened against Dovgal, details of the charges are unknown. On July 8, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Svetlana Dovgal guilty and sentenced her to imprisonment, the exact length of the sentence is unknown. On January 16, 2025, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
