Case Description
In Kurgan, no later than August 2023, a criminal case was opened for public calls for extremism and justification of terrorism against 59-year-old local resident Svetlana Bushueva. The investigation calls the woman a supporter of the "USSR citizens" movement, which considers the current constitutional order in Russia illegitimate and demands the restoration of the USSR. According to security forces, Bushueva posted videos and texts on social media calling for the extermination of people on ethnic grounds and the overthrow of power in the Russian Federation. It is unknown whether any pretrial restrictions were imposed. On June 18, 2024, the Central District Military Court found Svetlana Bushueva guilty and sentenced her to 6 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony with deprivation of the right to administer websites and channels using the Internet for 3 years. On November 11, 2024, the Appellate Military Court upheld the sentence without changes. On October 1, 2025, the Yurgamysh District Court of Kurgan Region granted the defense's motion to release Svetlana from punishment due to illness. The woman was released from the colony and sent home.
