Case Description
In October 2023, two local residents in Oryol were accused of 'desecrating symbols of Russia's military glory' by a group of individuals acting in collusion. According to the investigation, in April 2023, 21-year-old Stepan Sitnik painted over graffiti in the form of the letter Z in the colors of the St. George ribbon and the slogan 'We don't abandon our own' on the wall of the 'Metallurg' cultural center with white paint, while 22-year-old Alexander Kulakov filmed it on video. The men were released on their own recognizance not to leave during the investigation. On September 3, 2024, the Oryol Regional Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Stepan Sitnik to a fine of 1 million rubles. 200 thousand "rubles, and Alexander Kulakov - to a fine of 900 thousand. rubles. Judge qualified Sitnik's actions as desecration of a symbol of Russia's military glory, committed publicly, and Kulakov's actions as aiding and abetting this crime.
