Case Description
No later than October 2022 (the exact date is unknown), a criminal case was opened against Stepan Yefremov, a 71-year-old resident of the city of Karasuk, Novosibirsk Region, on charges of "fakes" about the Russian army. The chosen measure of restraint is unknown. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a repost in the social network "Odnoklassniki" of a video clip from the group "SerpomPo!" by the user "S. Efremenko. According to the investigation, the video contains statements 'containing a negative assessment of the actions of representatives of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the city of Mariupol.'" "Negative assessment of the actions of representatives of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is an indicator of indirect negative assessment of the representatives of this group directly. Efremenko himself denies that the page belongs to him. On August 31, 2023, Judge Tatyana Kostenko of the Karasuk District Court of the Novosibirsk Region found Stepan Efremenko guilty and sentenced him to 10 months of corrective labor, with 10% of his wages withheld for the state. The court ruled that the imposed punishment should be considered conditional with a probationary period of 9 months. On November 3, 2023, the Novosibirsk Regional Court upheld the sentence.
