Case Description

In Lipetsk in February 2023, a criminal case was initiated for repeated 'discrediting of the army' against 33-year-old activist Stanislav Korvyakov. The reason for the criminal prosecution was publications in a blog on "Yandex.Zen, in which Korvyakov compared the "symbols of the special operation" to a swastika and wrote "a lot of negativity and a lot of dirt" about Russian soldiers. Earlier, in August and October 2022, Korvyakov was charged in a case of an administrative offense under the article on "discrediting the army" due to official letters to the administration of Lipetsk, the regional health department and Russian Railways, in which the activist demanded to remove posters with the letter Z from the "Oktyabr" youth palace, from ambulance cars and from a diesel locomotive. The court chose Korvyakova's preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions. The activist was prohibited from using a phone and the internet and leaving the house from ten in the evening until six in the morning. On July 26, 2023, the prosecutor demanded to toughen the measure of restraint, since", Korvyakov violated the chosen measure of restraint by sending a complaint to the prosecutor's office of the Lipetsk region through the "Internet", related to issues of improvement of the city and not related to his criminal case. The October District Court of Lipetsk granted the prosecutor's motion and changed Korvyakov's measure of restraint to house arrest. On August 4, 2023, the Lipetsk Regional Court overturned this decision, again appointing a prohibition of certain actions as a preventive measure. On July 10, 2024, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Lipetsk found Stanislav Korvyakov guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 180 thousand. rubles. On December 5, 2024, the Lipetsk Regional Court upheld the sentence.
