Case Description
In Kopeysk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, a 25-year-old local resident, Shamil Nurumov, was detained no later than November 2019. During searches of his home, several cartridges and "explosive devices" were allegedly found. Nurumov himself later claimed that the cartridges and explosives were planted by security forces during the search. The Kopeysk resident was accused of aiding terrorist activities, illegal possession of weapons, ammunition, and explosives. According to the investigation, Nurumov used one of the social networks to agitate his followers to join the terrorist organization "Jabhat al-Nusra" and go to Syria to fight against the Russian army. He was also suspected of preparing an attack with a cold weapon on a police patrol in Chelyabinsk in 2019 and recruiting people for sabotage. The case's defendant was placed in a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation. On April 14, 2021, the Central Military District Court found Shamil Nurumov guilty and sentenced him to 9 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony with a fine of 10 thousand rubles. On August 24, 2021, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
