Case Description
On August 11, 2022, a criminal case was initiated in the Dzhankoy district of annexed Crimea against Enver Krosh, Vilen Temeryanov, Rinat Aliyev, Seytyaga Abbozov, and Edem Bekirov. On the same day, they were detained. They were charged with organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (in the case of Enver Krosh) and participating in it (in the case of the other defendants), as well as with preparing for the violent seizure of power and change of constitutional order.
According to the FSB, Enver Krosh created and headed a clandestine cell of the international organization 'Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami' in the Dzhankoy district no later than February 19, 2015. The other defendants joined it and engaged in propagating the party's ideas among the local population, storing religious literature, and conducting anti-Russian activities, inclining Muslims to the idea of creating a 'World Islamic Caliphate'. As evidence, the security forces used audio recordings of secret meetings in 2015, testimony from classified witnesses, and search results. Enver Krosh reported that he was subjected to beatings and torture by operatives after his detention.
On August 12, 2022, the Kyivsky District Court of Simferopol selected a measure of restraint for the defendants: Seytyaga Abbozov was placed under house arrest, while Krosh, Temeryanov, Aliyev, and Bekirov were placed in pre-trial detention (SIZO). On August 26, 2022, the Supreme Court of Crimea considered the appeals and left the decision of the lower court unchanged.
On April 18, 2023, the Southern District Military Court found Murat Mustafaev guilty and sentenced him to 4 years in a maximum-security colony, including 2 years in prison. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
On November 26, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Enver Krosh to 19 years in a maximum-security colony, with the first 4 years to be served in prison. Edem Bekirov and Rinat Aliyev were each sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment, Vilen Temeryanov to 14 years, and Seytyaga Abbozov to 13 years in a maximum-security colony, with the first 3 years to be served in prison. Abbozov was taken into custody in the courtroom.
