Case Description
In May 2022, in Ivanovo, a criminal case was opened against architect Sergey Volkov for the rehabilitation of Nazism. According to the expert examination available in the case, these publications contradict "the scientific paradigm of the Great Patriotic War in Russian historiography" and "carry an attempt to tarnish the highest military-political leadership of the USSR for inaction, cowardice or inhumane actions towards its population. Volkov himself linked the criminal prosecution to his criticism of Russia's military actions in Ukraine. It follows from the case materials that in January 2022 Mail.Ru provided the investigation with Volkov's personal correspondence. At the same time, the case materials primarily contained correspondence mentioning the war in Ukraine. On September 26, 2023, the Ivanovo Regional Court found Sergey Volkov guilty and sentenced him to a fine of 2 million. rubles.
