Case Description

In November 2022, a criminal case was opened in Moscow against a resident of Zelenograd, dentist Sergey Taraskin, for organizing the activities of an extremist organization. According to the investigation, he coordinated the activities of the extremist organization 'Union of Slavic Forces of Rus' (USSR), which is banned in Russia. The 'Union of Slavic Forces of Rus (USSR)' led by Sergey Taraskin was recognized as extremist on July 15, 2019. The ideology of this movement is based on the belief that the Soviet Union never collapsed, therefore the current government in Russia should be recognized as illegitimate. In the opinion of Taraskin's followers, in 1991 there was a "raider seizure" of power, and the current leadership of the Russian Federation and the states formed on the site of former union republics are "organized criminal communities" that need to be fought in order to restore all structures and bodies of the USSR. On November 27, 2022, the Zelenogradsky District Court of Moscow placed Taraskin under house arrest for the duration of the investigation. On May 4, 2022, the Zelenogradsky District Court of Moscow found Sergey Taraskin guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in a general regime colony. On December 5, 2022, the Moscow City Court left the verdict unchanged. On October 15, 2025, the Smolensk Court released Sergey Taraskin from further serving his sentence due to his health condition.
