According to the security forces, in December 2014 Sopiga left the LNR and lived for some time in the city of Shepetivka, Khmelnytskyi region, where in August 2015 he agreed to cooperate secretly with the Security Service of Ukraine. It is claimed that his "curator" was Voitsekhovskiy Vitaliy Olegovich, an employee of the Shepetivka District Department of the SSU in the Khmelnytskyi region. On the instructions of Voytsekhovsky, Sopiga made several trips to the "LNR, where he "collected information about the socio-political situation in the Republic, information about personnel, the movement of equipment, and the locations of the People's Militia of the LNR." The information he collected he passed on to his "curator.
