Case Description
In early December 2022, law enforcement officers detained a 38-year-old citizen of Ukraine, a native of the Yampolsky district of the Vinnytsia region, Sergey Sauliak, in annexed Sevastopol. A criminal case was opened against him for treason and assisting terrorist activities. According to the prosecution's version, Sauliak entered into cooperation with the Ukrainian special services in 2016 because he was a supporter of the 'Ukrainian ideology'. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he began passing them data on military facilities, but no longer for ideological reasons, but for money. In addition, he allegedly involved an acquaintance in the arson of an administrative building in Sevastopol. The defendants in the case were placed in custody for the duration of the investigation. On May 30, 2024, the Southern Military Court found Sergey Sauliak guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in a strict regime. On December 5, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
