Case Description
In Tambov in April 2023, a criminal case was opened for repeated 'discrediting of the army' against 30-year-old local resident Sergey Patsiashvili. The reason for the criminal prosecution was two comments on VKontakte from January 31, 2023. According to the security forces, the comments have signs of "discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for the purpose of protecting the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens, maintaining international peace and security, which are characterized as violent and aggressive in relation to the actions of the RF Armed Forces on the territory of Ukraine. Earlier, on March 31, 2022, the Sovetsky District Court of Tambov brought him to administrative responsibility in a case of an administrative offense under the article on "discrediting" the RF Armed Forces due to a post in the public "Filosofsky Kamen" (Philosopher's Stone) on VKontakte: "The Ministry of Defense of Russia claims that it was "banderites" who set fire to the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Nothing stupider can be thought of. Every Ukrainian understands that in the event of an explosion, the entire Ukraine will suffer from radiation. But the radiation may not reach Putin's bunker. The details of the charges, as well as the chosen preventive measure, are unknown." "On April 26, 2023, Paciašvili was interrogated, after which the man left the country. On August 7, 2023, he was put on the wanted list, and the investigation was suspended. On April 10, 2024, the Sovetsky District Court of Tambov chose Patsishvili as a measure of restraint in absentia arrest.
