Case Description
In May 2023, a criminal case was opened in Norilsk for incitement to extremism against local resident, native of Ukraine, Sergey Kurilenko. It is unknown what became the reason for the criminal prosecution. On 5 May 2023, Kurilenko was brought to administrative responsibility due to a Facebook post in which, according to the security forces, the man "disparagingly spoke about groups of people based on their affiliation with social groups - servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces participating in the war with Ukraine, and their close relatives. In court, the man said that he quit his job and sold his apartment in Norilsk because he plans to leave Russia with the aim of going to Ukraine. Later, the charge of calling for extremism was supplemented with a charge of spreading "fakes" about the Russian army motivated by political hatred. No later than August 29, 2023 (the exact date is unknown), Kurilenko was taken into custody. On September 17, 2024, Judge Elena Shakleina of the Norilsk City Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory found Sergey Kurilenko guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general regime penal colony. The court also banned Kurilenko from administering internet resources for five years. On December 19, 2024, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Court upheld the sentence.
