Case Description
In Yekaterinburg in March 2024, local resident Sergey Ilyin, 52, was detained. According to the security forces, the man planned to carry out a terrorist attack at a local military unit. During a search of the detainee's place of residence, five homemade incendiary devices were allegedly seized. Also claimed that the Yekaterinburg resident is a supporter of the banned extremist organization 'Citizens of the USSR'. A criminal case was initiated against the man for preparing a terrorist act and he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. Later, the charges were toughened: he was also charged with treason, attempted illegal trafficking of explosives as part of an organized group, as well as attempted terrorism resulting in the death of a person. On December 24, 2025, the Central Military District Court found Sergei Ilyin guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment in a strict regime colony. The size of the punishment is unknown. On December 9, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
